For Week 4 of the regular season, ESPN’s NFC East blogger Dan Graziano compiled his all-division team.
It’s difficult to pick up accolades in a loss, but Redskins fans should find consolation in the fact that they didn’t lose any spots this week either.
Once again securing eight of the 27 awards, Graziano didn’t have a knee-jerk reaction to a down week for the team, basing his rankings on the overall season picture.
Here are the Redskins recognized in this week’s addition:
Fullback: Darrel Young, Redskins (Young)
Left guard: Kory Lichtensteiger, Redskins (Lichtensteiger)
Outside linebacker: DeMarcus Ware, Cowboys; Ryan Kerrigan, Redskins (Ware, Kerrigan)
Inside linebacker: Sean Lee, Cowboys; London Fletcher, Redskins (Lee, Fletcher)
Safety: Kenny Phillips, Giants; O.J. Atogwe, Redskins (Phillips, Atogwe)
Punter: Sav Rocca, Redskins (Rocca)
Kick returner: Brandon Banks, Redskins (Banks)
Punt returner: Brandon Banks, Redskins (Banks)
It’s interesting that Darrel Young didn’t play last week (deactivated, hamstring), and still held onto his spot as the division’s top fullback. That shows that, when healthy, he’s the undisputed top lead back.
As far as punters, Sav Rocca brings the Down Under Thunder, leading the league in precision punting inside the 20. Distance per punt is overrated, and Rocca is giving the defense a big boost by pinning the other team back deep.
Graziano was complimentary of the Redskins line, which has held their own so far against three tough front-sevens:
No changes on the offensive line, though I took a long look at Washington center Will Montgomery and Eagles left guard Evan Mathis. The Redskins’ offensive line really is playing well, and I thought it held strong for most of the night under very difficult circumstances against Ware and his buddies in Dallas.
Graziano also mentioned cornerback Josh Wilson as a possibility, after he had a great week in Dallas. I suspect that if safety LaRon Landry continues to return to form over the next few weeks, he’ll be a consideration for a top safety spot as well.
Lots to look forward to for Redskins fans, as long as players stay healthy and play up to their potential.
