For the sixth time this season, the Redskins have a newcomer nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week. This is the third different player (Roy Helu, Ryan Kerrigan), and the third nomination on the offensive side of the ball.
Royster earned his nomination with a 19-carry, 132 yards performance on the ground. He tacked on an additional two receptions for 15 yards through the air, in a 33-26 loss to the Vikings on Saturday.
His nomination comes on his first professional start, the third Redskins player this season to manage this feat. As a sixth-round pick (177th overall), Royster is the latest draft selection among Week 16 Rookie of the Week nominees.
The Redskins have yet to win a weekly award this season.
