In his weekly Redskins preview for School of the Legends, former Redskins safety Vernon Fox outlines what the Redskins still have to play for this Sunday. While the most immediate prospects are personal pride, the two other outcomes are more important:
1. Beat a division opponent. Believe it or not, the Eagles are actually 4-1 against NFC East opponents, including a win over the Redskins in Washington. Beat them now, ensure that they finish with a losing record (7-9), and avenge the Week 6 loss.
2. Build for next year. The evaluation process in football is ongoing, but it begins in earnest after the season ends. Whether it’s evaluating needs in free agency or the draft, there are areas that the team will look to improve. A favorable last impression will help the players stay in Washington or find a job elsewhere. Like it or not, Sunday is the last time that this version of the Redskins will ever take the field.
