Yesterday afternoon, the Redskins officially announced the return of linebacker Chris Wilson, who had previously been with the team from 2007-10.
Wilson took to Twitter to announce the exciting news, fielding a warm welcome back from Redskins fans and media types:
Originally signed as undrafted free agent in 2007 out of the Canadian Football League, Wilson was a reserve defensive end and linebacker in Washington, earning his paychecks on special teams. His versatility made him a valuable asset, and also gained him the mutual respect of fellow swingmen Lorenzo Alexander and Kedric Golston.
The three grew together in Washington, and gradually forged a friendship off the field. When Wilson signed with the Philadelphia Eagles last fall, it was a major disappointment for Lorenzo Alexander, who continued to campaign for his friend’s return.
After London Fletcher was re-signed last week, Alexander prophetically tweeted about getting the whole band back together in Washington:
Alexander celebrated Wilson’s signing yesterday with a simple, celebratory tweet:
That makes Lorenzo Alexander three-for-three in terms of players that he campaigned for re-signing with the team. Did Alexander’s efforts made a difference in personnel decisions? I doubt it, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt.
Congratulations to Chris, congratulations to Lorenzo, and kudos to the front office for another solid offseason addition. Let’s celebrate with a throwback Chris Wilson song (around the 4:20 mark):
