On Thursday evening, the Redskins 80th Anniversary tour bus packed up and traveled two hours to Harrisonburg, Va., home of the James Madison Dukes and Redskins legend Gary Clark.
Clark met the Redskins contingent as the bus pulled into the Fraternal Order of Eagles State Convention parking lot, and joined Dexter Manley and Frank Grant as the stars of the show. Current star fullback Darrel Young was also in attendance, along with Hogette Danoette and the First Ladies of Football.
The veteran players each took their turns thanking the fans for 80 great years, and making predictions for the 2012 season. Fans ate up the optimism, shouting “RG3!” from the crowd (among other things) and cheering raucously.
Dexter Manley predicts a winner in 2012:
“Of the 90 players on the team right now, only about 15 of them are left from before Shanahan came. We’ve got a young stud here today in Darrel Young, and I think we’re headed for a turnaround this year. They’re gonna play great defense, be aggressive on offense, and I think we’re gonna win at least 10 football games. How about you? I think that Redskins fans are the best in the National Football League!”
Gary Clark predicts Griffin III bringing a Championship to DC:
“The Redskins have made some serious moves this year–some great moves. Are we ready for RG3 to come in here and do some things? I’m ready for RG3 to come in and bring back the days when we had Sonny, Billy Kilmer, Doug Williams, Mark Rypien and Joe Theismann. I think he can be a leader like those guys were leaders. But most importantly, what he’s gonna do for us going forward, is he’s gonna bring us back another ring.”
At which point, Clark held up his large Super Bowl ring from Super Bowl XXVI, and the crowds went crazy.
From the die-hard fans in the attendance, to the delicious BBQ dinner, it was a great stop on the Redskins Thank You Tour. Redskins Nation embraces James Madison fans, and welcomes them to FedExField on Sept. 15 for what figures to be an exciting game against West Virginia.
(Shameless plug): If you’re interested in tickets for that game, there are still some available, so don’t get left out!
Next up on the Redskins Thank Your Tour will be a July 4th, when the bus will appear in the Independence Day Parade. TGIF and HTTR!
