One of the coolest experiences of the NFL’s Super Bowl Media Center is the huge ballroom that becomes known as Radio Row.
As you weave your way through the ocean of tables and radio personalities, you’re overwhelmed by the cult of personality. On one side, there’s Herm Edwards discussing his recent comments on the destination of Peyton Manning. On the other side, Miss America sits in on the set of the NFL Network, while Joe Theismann schmoozes CSN Washington:
But as you push past the crowd, the far side of Radio Row holds a golden gem: a tribute to the patriotic sacrifice that NFL players have made for their country in times of need. Prominently featured in that display, is none other than your Washington Redskins; a team with deep historical ties to service.
According to the display, more than 1,200 active NFL players have answered America’s call since its inception in 1920. These conflicts have included World War II and the wars in Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East.
Redskins highlighted in the display included Cliff Battles, a running back sensation in the 1930s:
In World War II, Battles served alongside Pro Football Hall Of Famer (and former Redskins stud) Wayne Millner:
A third Redskins teammates to join his brothers in World War II was future Hall Of Fame coach (and alleged inventor of the screen pass), Ray Flaherty. These are his enlistment papers on display:
And from the perspective of the Assistant Editor for the Redskins Gameday Magazine, I was delighted to see a copy of the Redskins Review. This is the gameday magazine that was available to fans on the Dec. 7, 1941 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which was interrupted by the attacks on Pearl Harbor:
And of course, a Redskins No. 53 game-worn jersey from that fateful day (checking to find out that owner of No. 53 in 1941):
No matter what I see in Indianapolis, few things will impress me more than seeing the history of service that this organization has to its community and country. It really makes me proud to write about things like this, and it gives me an opportunity to pause and give thanks that I’m free to do what I do because of people like this.

Man would i love to see CONNER BARTH in a burgandy and gold uni, and GRAHAM GANO a ghost as a REDSKIN.
OL
The Packers SCOTT WELLS at center and re-sign WIL MONTGOMERY.
Add CARL NICKS at left guard to replace MAURICE HURT.
Draft RT MIKE ADAMS in the second round of the draft
Those four moves should stabilize the OL provided WILLIAMS isn’t caught toking anymore.
DL
Bring in a true NT – AUBRAYO FRANKLIN.
Re-sign ADAM CARRIKER, and KEDRIC GOLSTON
Draft DE ETHAN JOHNSON

Man, I wish i had a clue. But I’m sure of one thing…..like you, I want to color the GROSS-man gone as a REDSKIN. There’s just so many ways to go at that position until FA is over.
In no particular order:
1 – Re-sign GROSSMAN. Makes me want to wretch!
2 – Let BECK take over as he’s under contract for next season. The thought of that eventuality makes me laugh!
3 – Sign another FA just as we’ve done for the past two seasons. FLYNN is the current flavor of the month. MANNING a distant second.
4 – Go all in with draft picks and move on RG3.
5 – Draft a lesser QB such as WEEDEN or WILSON, and give him ojt while conserving picks in 2012 a,d 2013 for other needful slots.
6 – Trade down and continue the rebuild while using one extra pick on a flyer at QB.
Really, I think one of those scenerios will play out and it all depends upon what ultimately happens in FA. Right now, I don’t think ALLEN and SHANAHAN perfer one option over another, except I sense a distast for the first two. I certainly do anyway, as do you I’m sure.

CB: I would go after WILLIAM GAY in FA or a second choice, GREG TOLAR as a less expensive option for the nickel-back slot to compete with a re-signed BYRON WESTBROOK and BRANDYN THOMPSON.. Lose KEVIN BARNES.
SS: Re-sign LaRON LANDREY, and hope his health holds up. Draft WINSTON GUY Jr. in the fourth round to compete with REED DOUGHTY.
FS Draft TRUMAINE JOHNSON from Boise State in the fifth to compete with DeJON GOMES.
LB
The strength of the club currently. I would re-sign LONDON FLETCHER and KEYRON FOX then hope nobody gets seriously hurt.
The rest of the offense
RB
Consider signing TRENT RICHARDSON and letting TIM HIGHTOWER go. or re-sign HIGHTOWER after OTA’s if he’s healthy, and save that #1 pick for another top player {prolly CB] or trade down depending.
WR
Drop AUSTIN and ROBINSON and add FA DWAYNE BOWE. Consider re-signing STALLWORTH to a short-term limited-money contract.
TE
Draft DWAYNE ALLEN if we trade down in the first and let DAVIS walk. Hope COOLEY can still run.

So we sign FA’s
BYRON WESTBROOK
LaRON LANDREY
LONDON FLETCHER
KEYRON FOX
ADAM CARRIKER
KEDRICK GOLSTON
REX GROSSMAN ??
TIM HIGHTOWER ??
DONTE STALLWORTH ??
FRED DAVIS ??
WIL MONTGOMERY
Add FA’s
CONNER BARTH
MATT FLYNN ??
DWAYNE BOWE
SCOTT WELLS
CARL NICKS
AUBRAYO FRANKLIN
WILLIAM GAY or GREG TOLAR
Then draft accordingly.
Some of these moves will undoubtedly happen, some won’t. Some of the players I’ve mentioned may be involved, most won’t. but this is what I perceive is needed this off-season to strengthen the REDSKINS into a championship contender.

Anyone else notice they spelled “interrupted” wrong on the Cliff Battles plaque thing?
